The Community We Can Be (Colossians 3:12-17)

Let’s imagine that everyone is a car, each of us driving along the road of life. For the most part, when it comes to rules of the road that govern human behavior, the one thing that most people agree on is that whatever you do, you should not crash your car into any other cars. Do whatever you want to your own car, just don’t crash into anyone else.

But the standard we find in these verses is actually much higher than “don’t hurt anyone”. Paul tells us to clothe ourselves with peace, love, kindness, gentleness, gratitude... qualities that you are healthy. So that we, collectively, embody an even better community that doesn’t settle for “well, just don’t crash” but one where people are growing and flourishing internally and externally.
