Our Men’s Group is an opportunity for guys to get to know other guys in our community. These times are either casual conversation based get togethers or centered around a shared activity. Whether we’re talking about life and faith or playing a game of pick-up basketball, our hope is that this time will encourage meaningful connections and bonds over shared interests.

We’re starting our Men’s Group with a Guys Game Night. Card games, board games… if you’re into a bit of brotherly comradery and competition, this Men’s Group is for you. We’ll meet in the Youth Room at the church at 7pm.

It's starting to feel like fall, which means it's football season and it's about the right time to enjoy a good bowl of chili! 

Join us for an afternoon of food, football, and fellowship at our first ever Commons Chili Kickoff after church on Sunday, October 18!  You're invite to stay at church after our usual Sunday morning gathering where we'll provide a variety of chilis and soups for folks to feast on before we sit down and watch the New England Patriots play the New York Jets at 1pm!

Again, chilis and soups will be provided, but be sure to bring your favorite football watching snacks and if you're feeling generous, we encourage you to bring some to share!  Whether that be chips, dips, or any other variety of finger foods.

After church on Sunday, October 4, you’re invited to participate in our annual All Commons Meeting. 

This is a chance for us to share about what is happening internally within the life of this community. We’ll share highlights from the past year, talk about what’s coming next, and give a snapshot of our financial health. We’ll discuss our core values, give an update on our standing within our denomination, the Evangelical Covenant Church, and we’ll have time to answer questions and share ideas.

Childcare is available in the Brookridge Youth Room off the back of the Fellowship Hall. Megan will be back there with some helpers to shepherd kids.

One of our favorite fall events is taking a trip to Cider Hill Farm in Amesbury.  They’ve got a huge orchard full of apple trees where you can pick apples, but you can also visit the chickens and the goats, grab lunch, hear live music, let the kids play on giant tricycles, see all of the beautiful pumpkins, and, yes, there are cider donuts.

On September 27th, after our Sunday service, we'll head over to Cider Hill Farm for a fun afternoon of fellowship and fall festivities.  No sign up necessary.  Just mark your calendar and head over after church!

Backyard Bonfire

This year we’re concluding our summer of alternative gatherings with a staple.  It's the Backyard Bonfire!  On Saturday, August 29th, at 6pm, we’re combining two backyards to host an epic backyard bonfire with plenty of activities for the kids and at least two fire pits.  We’ll gather around the flickering flames, roast marshmallows, enjoy the company and conversation. 

We’ll provide food and drinks, and then, halfway through the evening, we’ll shift into a conversation with several artists in our own community about faith, the arts, and creativity.  These are open ended and flexible conversations, giving us a chance to practice our values of curiosity, authenticity, and humility. 

Remember to bring a lawn chair, bug repellant, and anything else you might need for an evening fireside.  You’re welcome to drop in for part of the evening or stay for the whole thing. 

What does it look like to pass on a faith that's resilient, rooted in trust, and full of room for questions? This summer we'll explore that question (and many more) with other parents and caregivers at Haverhill Commons as we read and discuss Woven: Nurturing a Faith Your Kid Doesn't Have to Heal From by Meredith Miller.

In Woven, pastor and parent Meredith Miller invites us to move beyond rules and checklists and instead help our kids genuinely get to know God. Rather than faith built brick by brick—where every doubt threatens the wall—she paints a picture of faith woven strand by strand, flexible and strong enough to hold up through real life.

We'll gather twice over the summer to discuss the book together:

Session 1 — Chapters 1 to 4  Thursday, July 30 | 6:30 PM
Session 2 — Chapters 5 to 11  Thursday, August 27 | 6:30 PM

Whether you feel confident in your faith or find yourself full of your own questions, this book meets you where you are. Come ready to share, learn, and encourage one another as we think about how to walk alongside our kids in their faith journeys.

The weight of the world and the challenges and sufferings of this life are not something we have to bear on our own. God invites us to seek refuge by offering up those burdens in prayer. Every other Wednesday evening at 6:30pm, we’re hosting a small guided gathering in the Youth Room for folks who want or need to pray, to be prayed for, to rest, or to find refuge. We’re calling it Common Prayer.

These guided gathering will last between 30-60 minutes. Whether you want to come and pray out loud, pray silently, be prayed for, or simply observe, please know that you're welcomed.

Serve Sunday: Green and Clean with Team Haverhill

As part of our summer of alternative gatherings, we come together to serve our community for Serve Sunday.  Instead of our normal worship service, we’ll gather in the Brookridge Community Church parking lot at 10am, and a representative from Team Haverhill will meet us and give us what we need to clean up the outdoor areas of the surrounding neighborhood, Haverhill City Hall, and the Haverhill Public Library.  We'll be doing this work alongside our friends at Brookridge Community Church.

Please plan on bringing work gloves. Team Haverhill will have additional supplies such as trash bags, buckets, and trash grabbers.

This is a family friendly opportunity to serve our neighbors in a tangible way. We hope you can join us!

A Morning of Worship

On Sunday morning, August 2nd, at 11am, we’re gathering in the Fellowship Hall for a special gathering we’re calling More to Your Story: A Morning of Worship. We're dedicating an hour to sing, pray, engage with scripture, and worship God together.

We’ve spent the summer discovering there’s more to the stories of the Old Testament than we thought we knew. We’ve learned that by slowing down and taking our time with the text, we begin to discover a whole world of meaning hiding just beneath the surface. The Bible truly has the power to change the way we think and feel about everything.

But what about our story? We carry the stories of our own… stories we’ve inherited… stories that we did not ask to play a role in… stories we tell ourselves about ourselves… This morning we’ll discover that there’s not only more to the story but more to our story.
