The Common Summer Read: Parent Edition
What does it look like to pass on a faith that's resilient, rooted in trust, and full of room for questions? This summer we'll explore that question (and many more) with other parents and caregivers at Haverhill Commons as we read and discuss Woven: Nurturing a Faith Your Kid Doesn't Have to Heal From by Meredith Miller.
In Woven, pastor and parent Meredith Miller invites us to move beyond rules and checklists and instead help our kids genuinely get to know God. Rather than faith built brick by brick—where every doubt threatens the wall—she paints a picture of faith woven strand by strand, flexible and strong enough to hold up through real life.
We'll gather twice over the summer to discuss the book together:
Session 1 — Chapters 1 to 4 Thursday, July 30 | 6:30 PM
Session 2 — Chapters 5 to 11 Thursday, August 20 | 6:30 PM
Whether you feel confident in your faith or find yourself full of your own questions, this book meets you where you are. Come ready to share, learn, and encourage one another as we think about how to walk alongside our kids in their faith journeys.
You can register using the button below. You will need a copy of the book to participate, but we don't want anything to get in the way of you joining us—if purchasing the book is a barrier, please let us know and we'll happily provide one for you.
More to Your Story: A Morning of Worship
A Morning of Worship
On Sunday morning, August 2nd, at 11am, we’re gathering in the Fellowship Hall for a special gathering we’re calling More to Your Story: A Morning of Worship. We're dedicating an hour to sing, pray, engage with scripture, and worship God together.
We’ve spent the summer discovering there’s more to the stories of the Old Testament than we thought we knew. We’ve learned that by slowing down and taking our time with the text, we begin to discover a whole world of meaning hiding just beneath the surface. The Bible truly has the power to change the way we think and feel about everything.
But what about our story? We carry the stories of our own… stories we’ve inherited… stories that we did not ask to play a role in… stories we tell ourselves about ourselves… This morning we’ll discover that there’s not only more to the story but more to our story.
Kids Commons
We strive to make Kids Commons a place where all kids can feel safe, be curious, and know they are loved by God.
This Sunday we will have a 0 to 6 Year Old Class available and can be joined anytime before or during the service.
We’ll also have a 1st through 3rd Grade Class available. Children are invited to join this class after the first portion of our gathering.
We encourage 4th and 5th graders to join us for the morning of worship.
SoulFood
Please join us after the service for SoulFood, a space to meet, connect, and engage with one another...all over coffee and a bite to eat.
Common Prayer
The weight of the world and the challenges and sufferings of this life are not something we have to bear on our own. God invites us to seek refuge by offering up those burdens in prayer. Every other Wednesday evening at 6:30pm, we’re hosting a small guided gathering in the Youth Room for folks who want or need to pray, to be prayed for, to rest, or to find refuge. We’re calling it Common Prayer.
These guided gathering will last between 30-60 minutes. Whether you want to come and pray out loud, pray silently, be prayed for, or simply observe, please know that you're welcomed.
Sunday Worship Service
Sunday Service
Our Sunday morning gatherings integrate traditional and modern practices to create a purposeful worship experience. We sing, stand for the reading of scripture, engage God’s word during a 25 minute sermon.
In this short series, we’re looking at how God works through the changes in our lives to renovate us to look more like Jesus.
In addition to our normal worship, the first Sunday of every month, we celebrate communion together at the Lord’s Table.

Serve Sunday: Green and Clean with Team Haverhill
Serve Sunday: Green and Clean with Team Haverhill
As part of our summer of alternative gatherings, we come together to serve our community for Serve Sunday. Instead of our normal worship service, we’ll gather in the Brookridge Community Church parking lot at 10am, and a representative from Team Haverhill will meet us and give us what we need to clean up the outdoor areas of the surrounding neighborhood, Haverhill City Hall, and the Haverhill Public Library. We'll be doing this work alongside our friends at Brookridge Community Church.
Please plan on bringing work gloves. Team Haverhill will have additional supplies such as trash bags, buckets, and trash grabbers.
This is a family friendly opportunity to serve our neighbors in a tangible way. We hope you can join us!

Commons Special: Backyard Bonfire
Backyard Bonfire
This year we’re concluding our summer of alternative gatherings with a staple, a Backyard Bonfire! On Saturday, August 29th, at 6pm, we’re combining two backyards to host a an epic backyard bonfire with plenty of activities for the kids and at least two fire pits. We’ll gather around the flickering flames, roast marshmallows, enjoy the company and conversation.
We’ll provide food and drinks, and then, halfway through the evening, we’ll shift into a conversation about how our faith informs our engagement with immigrants and the immigration process. These are open ended and flexible conversations, giving us a chance to practice our values of curiosity, authenticity, and humility.
Remember to bring a lawn chair, bug repellant, and anything else you might need for an evening fireside. You’re welcome to drop in for part of the evening or stay for the whole thing.

SoulCare Sunday: The Rhythm of Summer
SoulCare Sunday
On SoulCare Sunday, instead of gathering in our normal space for Sunday worship, we gather as a community outdoors, in nature, to experience the God of creation and embrace the distinct rhythms of the seasons. This summer, instead of going to Rolling Ridge Retreat Center, we’re gathering on the sands of Salisbury Beach!
The beach and ocean often evoke in us a sense of awe and wonder. God’s power displayed in the waves of the ocean and soft sand inviting us to rest, to play, and to listen to the waves.
We will be led through a series of spiritual practices in this beautiful outdoor setting, and after some time in contemplation, we’ll gather back together to share our experiences of renewal and rest with each other and with God.
We're tentatively planning to meet on the beach at Beach Access 13. There is free parking on both sides of the street along North End Blvd and a small parking lot nearby on 5th St. W.
This event is open to adults and children, just let us know how many are attending so that we can plan accordingly. We'll be outside on the beach so be sure to bring water and any weather appropriate clothing or necessary items such as sunscreen or a beach towel. More details on parking and a specific meeting location to come.

Games and Grub Picnic
We're kicking off our seasonal alternating rhythm with a splash! Instead of our normal worship service, we'll gather at Swasey Park in Haverhill, at 11am, for a summer celebration. Swasey Park has a little bit for everyone, the kids will especially love running through the splash pad area.
We'll provide food and plenty of drinks to stay hydrated. All you need to do is show up!
We encourage everyone to bring a lawn chair, towels, and a blanket to sit on. If you want to run through the splash pad, a swimsuit is a good idea. Depending on the weather, we advise bringing sunscreen and a hat.
One of our very own, Dan Smith, will have some games and activities prepared for those who would like to participate. Children and adults are welcome! The park has a few baseball diamonds, open fields, and a basketball court, so feel free to bring baseball gear, a frisbee, or anything else that seems like fun.
